About Restaurant Promaja

Restaurant Promaja is located near Loznica, in the birthplace of Vuk Karadžić, in the beautiful and unspoiled village of Tršić.
This tavern, with a tradition of more than 30 years, welcomes guests each year with cheerful, attentive staff and traditional food from the Loznica region. We should point out that this is one of the restaurants where we felt most warmly welcomed, and where, among other things, we got to try exceptional homemade Serbian meat aspic.(pihtije)

Food and Drinks

We tried a bit of everything – where to begin?

For the starter, we chose a platter of homemade specialties: kulen, prosciutto, kajmak, cheese, and ovčija sarmica, a local dish you are unlikely to find elsewhere in Serbia. Alongside it, we had excellent homemade proja, the traditional firm cornbread, made without additions, and, on the house, we were served homemade pihtije (Serbian meat aspic), seasoned with garlic and cut into small diamond-shaped pieces.

For lunch, we had grilled beefsteak, veal cooked under the sač, grilled chicken breast, and grilled ćevapi. For dessert, we were treated to complimentary homemade walnut cookies, and we also ordered cakes to share, with fruit and chocolate, made by the young owner. They are not always available, but they are rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious.

Ambience

This is one of those restaurants where you do not just feel at home, you feel as though you have come away on holiday. The entire restaurant has a rustic atmosphere and blends naturally into the village surroundings.

It stands at the entrance to the village, with the Žeravija stream flowing nearby. The wooden interior, a traditional carriage, a brick oven, and an old stove once used for baking, along with all the details throughout the courtyard, show how food used to be prepared here and preserve the memory of the region’s traditions.

There is also a grill in the garden, where you can see your food being prepared on the spot. It is especially beautiful in summer, when everything turns green, and you can enjoy the view of the lush countryside surrounding the village.

Service and Recommendation

The staff is very kind, but above all, they make a point of telling you what is fresh on the menu that day and take care to explain the freshness of the ingredients and what pairs well with what.

The owner has passed the restaurant on to his son, who has continued the long family tradition. One interesting detail is that the owner still prepares the pickled cabbage himself and personally oversees the quality of the meat served.

A tradition spanning 30 years is already a recommendation in itself, but what deserves particular praise is that the restaurant is still run by the family, which ensures an excellent future for this family-owned establishment.
